HOW WILL ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT HELP MY CHILD?

Thinking about whether your child requires braces? You’ve come to the right place. Orthodontic treatment can be a very significant part of your child’s oral health care. We’re here to answer some of the questions you might have regarding orthodontic treatment for your child.

What is the purpose of orthodontic treatment?

The objective of orthodontic treatment is to build a healthy bite. When jaws and teeth fit incorrectly, they can function properly. This promotes good oral and general physical health. There is always the added advantage that orthodontic treatment also brings out a beautiful smile.

How will orthodontic treatment help my child?

Orthodontic treatment will help your child to chew in a healthy manner, which will also contribute to clear speech. It helps your child’s jaw to function accurately and also looks nice. An attractive smile is a pleasant outcome of orthodontic treatment and can have emotional benefits. Self-confidence and self-esteem improve as orthodontic treatment bring teeth, lips, and face into proportion. It enhances your child’s overall health as straight teeth are less prone to decay, gum disease and injury.

What’s the right age for orthodontic treatment?

Ideally, it is advised that your child gets an orthodontic evaluation no later than the age of 7 when the permanent teeth begin to erupt. Timing is also decided by the type of problem that the child has or may be developing, and the child’s stage of dental development. Some may require tooth movement only, while others may need help with guiding the growth of their jaws, or to correct an abnormal habit. Some orthodontists recommend an interceptive approach. This usually includes the use of dental instruments when the child is younger and still has most of his or her baby teeth. Then, once a child has mostly adult teeth, the second phase of treatment can begin, which normally includes braces.

Isn’t 7 yrs too young to get braces?

Around 7 years of age, your child’s permanent teeth begin to erupt. A check-up at this age will help your orthodontist understand if a problem exists or is developing. Remember, there is a lot of distinction between a check-up and requiring braces treatment. Usually, your orthodontist might suggest a wait and watch approach, with a periodic follow-up in case any developing problem is detected. Also, not all orthodontic problems need correction with the help of braces.

If you’re still doubtful of when to schedule your first orthodontic treatment, reach out to us. We’d be happy to share what we believe to be the best solution to get a beautiful smile based on your situation.

Why should I have my wisdom teeth removed?

Sometimes, wisdom teeth create problems they need to come out. Otherwise, Wisdom teeth may cause damage to the other teeth by pushing your other teeth around, causing mouth pain and bite problems.

Wisdom teeth are known as third molars. you have three molars on each side of your upper and lower jaw the last molar is termed wisdom teeth. You don’t require to have all four third molars. sometimes one or more molars are missing.
Often, wisdom teeth don’t grow in position because there is not enough space available in your jaw. its eruption is obstructed by tissue or other teeth. The teeth could be stuck or impacted. The tooth could be growing at an angle to other teeth. Impacted teeth can create problems with chewing or periodontal problem and harm adjacent teeth.

When its removal needed?

-When wisdom teeth cause a problem or x-ray show it is not coming out in a proper position.
-Tissue around the area can swell repeatedly and not possible to clean.
-When cavities develop in teeth.
-When its damage to other teeth in alignment.

When should we plan for removal?

-In general, it’s best to plan for removal between the ages of 18 to 28. Because in young adults, the formation of the root is not complete, so there is less complication at the time of removal.
-In older age also we can remove but there is a chance for the complication is more. In older age roots of your wisdom teeth are fully developed and the jawbone is denser.
What is the extraction procedure?
First, your dentist will give you local anaesthesia. After that oral surgeon will do the extraction of your teeth. It will take 20 to 40 minutes.
Recovery time depends on the degree of tooth impaction and your age. After extraction swelling will be there for 3-5 days.
The dentist may prescribe you pain medication.

What are the risks of third molar extraction?

1)Dry socket:-
After extraction blood clots that form in the tooth sockets. if that clots dislodged is called dry socket. In this, you may feel severe pain. In smokers, this complication is more prone.

2)Nerve injury:-
There is a nerve in the jaw bone below the roots of teeth. when roots of wisdom teeth grow down toward nerve then chances of nerve injury are high at the time of removal.
Nerve injury can cause numbness in the lower lip.

If you have any doubts regarding wisdom teeth problems search about it and get information. Get to know about the best dental hospital from your friends and family for any type of dental problem.

Does cleaning of teeth make them loose?

The main aim of teeth cleaning or scaling is remove plaque, tarter and stains that have accumulated on the teeth. Even if you do proper brushing and flossing plaque and calculus will appear on the teeth.
What is plaque and calculus?
Plaque is a soft colourless deposit on the tooth surface which is colourless and gradual deposition of minerals from the saliva on this soft deposit will form a thick yellow to brown coloured band around the teeth called calculus or tartar.

This yellow coloured band will not be able to remove with proper brushing and if you didn’t go for a professional teeth cleaning for calculus removal this may result in gradual bone loss and result in loose teeth. So dentist will advise every person to go for teeth cleaning once in 6 months or once in a year.

What exactly does in professional teeth cleaning?

Dentists remove the deposits with specialized equipments without causing harm to the teeth.

All the equipments used for cleaning purpose are washed, disinfected and sterilized to avoid the cross infection.

A dental mirror is used to help the dentist inspect the areas which are hard to see in the mouth and observe the teeth and gums for signs of inflammation, swelling, decay, tarter, or bleeding.

Ultrasonic scales, device with mild vibrations to loosen larger pieces of tarter. It also continuously sprays the mists of cool water to wash away loose debris.

Ultrasonic instrument is an instrument with smooth curved tip which works in a constant vibratory motion which removes thick bands of calculus without causing any harm to the tooth structure. The speed of the vibratory motion and the water splash can be control with the settings in the machine.

Once the gross deposits are removed, the dentist will use finer hand instruments like curettes or hand scales, these tools are designed to eliminate smaller deposits on the teeth and smooth the tooth surfaces.

Each tooth should be cleaned from all the aspects and make sure the tartar has been removed completely.

Once the surfaces of the teeth are completely free off tartar, the dentist will smoother the tooth surface with the help of rubber cup and prophylaxis paste.

Prophylaxis paste abrasive paste which uses in the rubber cup to make the tooth surface more smooth and glowing.

In patients with high caries index dentist does fluoride application for 30 seconds to protect tooth from further caries formation.
The mild vibratory motion of the tip and water splash from the ultrasonic scalers does not cause any pain or discomfort.

Tooth cleaning is a painless procedure if you get the pain or severe sensitivity informs the doctor so that he will take alternate measures to make your teeth cleaning painless and more enjoyable.

Professional teeth cleaning happen in dental chair reclined at 45 degree angulations and the procedure takes around half an hour to 45 minutes.

After professional teeth cleaning your teeth will be little more sensitive for 2-3 days its quiet normal and its will disappear gradually with the use of mouth wash or tooth paste for sensitivity.

Teeth cleaning procedures are not designed for aesthetic purpose; its main concern is to provide you with a good oral hygiene.

Your teeth become loose if you are not keeping your gums not free off plaque and calculus.

What is dental implant surgery?

A dental implant is a titanium post (resemble tooth root) that is placed into the jawbone and allowed to fuse with the bone over the span of few months. This artificial root will carry the crown/bridge. As dental implant replaces crowns along with roots of missing teeth it exactly gives the feel of your natural teeth.

The fusion of dental implant with jawbone is called “osseointegration”. The success rate for dental implants is close to 98%. Today dental implant considered as the best tooth replacement option in dentistry because it replaces the missing tooth without affecting the adjacent teeth.

Procedure of dental implant surgery:
Step1: Medical history and health of the patient
Step2: Extraction of damaged tooth under local anesthesia and observe alveolar bone where the implant needs to be placed.
Step3: Placement of bone grafts if there is no adequate bone structure and wait for 2 to six months for the implant placement. If there is adequate bone structure then immediate placement of the implant under local anesthesia.

Step4: At the implant placement appointment, under local anesthesia the implant is placed into the bone with special drills and tools of appropriate diameter .

A “healing cap” is placed over the implant, the gum is stitched up and then the healing phase begins. Observe the implant for 2 to 6 months this is the time where the implant integrate with the bone. During healing phase patient can go for a temporary crown or denture for esthetic purpose but no force should be exerted on the implant at this phase.

Step5: Once the implant was taken up by the surrounding bone, a prosthetic component called “abutment” placed on the implant which helps to hold the crown/ bridge/ denture.
