Is root canal treatment only for tooth cavity?

Root canal treatment does when you have tooth pain or when nerves of your tooth get exposed.
When you have to do root canal treatment:

• An infected tooth with a deep cavity

• Fractured tooth with exposed pulp

• Deep cervical abrasion with severe sensitivity or pain

• Severely attrited teeth or with deep wear facet

• The cracked tooth with pain

If the cracks on the tooth remain in the crown then the tooth can be saved with root canal treat and crown whereas if the crack extends to the root surface of the teeth then the tooth can’t be saved.

• Deep periodontal pocket with pain

• Intentional root canal treatment

The patients with crowded, proclaimed, spacing or Midline Diastema and missing teeth will have a new treatment option called smile design. The patients who are not willing for orthodontic treatment and who need an immediate result prefers to go for this treatment.
In this treatment, the dentist will do selective grinding of teeth to make the teeth in a line under local anaesthesia and they will place crowns above the teeth. While doing selective grinding sometimes the pulp gets exposed thus in such cases we have to do intentional root canal treatment.

Does cleaning of teeth make them loose?

The main aim of teeth cleaning or scaling is remove plaque, tarter and stains that have accumulated on the teeth. Even if you do proper brushing and flossing plaque and calculus will appear on the teeth.
What is plaque and calculus?
Plaque is a soft colourless deposit on the tooth surface which is colourless and gradual deposition of minerals from the saliva on this soft deposit will form a thick yellow to brown coloured band around the teeth called calculus or tartar.

This yellow coloured band will not be able to remove with proper brushing and if you didn’t go for a professional teeth cleaning for calculus removal this may result in gradual bone loss and result in loose teeth. So dentist will advise every person to go for teeth cleaning once in 6 months or once in a year.

What exactly does in professional teeth cleaning?

Dentists remove the deposits with specialized equipments without causing harm to the teeth.

All the equipments used for cleaning purpose are washed, disinfected and sterilized to avoid the cross infection.

A dental mirror is used to help the dentist inspect the areas which are hard to see in the mouth and observe the teeth and gums for signs of inflammation, swelling, decay, tarter, or bleeding.

Ultrasonic scales, device with mild vibrations to loosen larger pieces of tarter. It also continuously sprays the mists of cool water to wash away loose debris.

Ultrasonic instrument is an instrument with smooth curved tip which works in a constant vibratory motion which removes thick bands of calculus without causing any harm to the tooth structure. The speed of the vibratory motion and the water splash can be control with the settings in the machine.

Once the gross deposits are removed, the dentist will use finer hand instruments like curettes or hand scales, these tools are designed to eliminate smaller deposits on the teeth and smooth the tooth surfaces.

Each tooth should be cleaned from all the aspects and make sure the tartar has been removed completely.

Once the surfaces of the teeth are completely free off tartar, the dentist will smoother the tooth surface with the help of rubber cup and prophylaxis paste.

Prophylaxis paste abrasive paste which uses in the rubber cup to make the tooth surface more smooth and glowing.

In patients with high caries index dentist does fluoride application for 30 seconds to protect tooth from further caries formation.
The mild vibratory motion of the tip and water splash from the ultrasonic scalers does not cause any pain or discomfort.

Tooth cleaning is a painless procedure if you get the pain or severe sensitivity informs the doctor so that he will take alternate measures to make your teeth cleaning painless and more enjoyable.

Professional teeth cleaning happen in dental chair reclined at 45 degree angulations and the procedure takes around half an hour to 45 minutes.

After professional teeth cleaning your teeth will be little more sensitive for 2-3 days its quiet normal and its will disappear gradually with the use of mouth wash or tooth paste for sensitivity.

Teeth cleaning procedures are not designed for aesthetic purpose; its main concern is to provide you with a good oral hygiene.

Your teeth become loose if you are not keeping your gums not free off plaque and calculus.

-the sugar found naturally in whole fruit is not causing tooth decay.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ORTHODONTICS?

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ORTHODONTICS?
Orthodontics in general deals with the straightening of your teeth and jaws. It is a branch of dentistry and the dentist who specializes in this is called an orthodontist.

Confused about whether you require orthodontic treatment? Here is a list of dental conditions which suggest you might require orthodontic treatment-
1. Gum disease- to maintain the health of your gums, proper alignment of teeth is a prerequisite as this will help in maintain oral hygiene and prevent further gum problems
2. Tooth decay- one of the major causes of tooth decay is an inability to remove plaque from teeth. When teeth are not aligned properly, plaque removal becomes difficult which in turn leads to dental decay. Orthodontics helps in aligning teeth in such cases thereby helping you maintain your mouth cavity-free.
3. Wear and tear- if the upper and lower teeth don’t sit properly with each other, it leads to the grinding of teeth. In such cases, orthodontics helps in creating a balanced environment for chewing
4. Social- people are conscious of their smiles if the teeth are not well aligned. Orthodontics helps you in achieving that perfect smile which gives you your confidence back
How does orthodontics work?
When you first visit a dental clinic, your dentist will do a thorough check-up of your teeth and jaws, and if required will refer you to an orthodontist. The orthodontist then does a checkup and determines what kind of treatment you would require. Then, records like impressions, photographs, and x-rays are taken which further determine what kind o treatment plan to go for.

What are the various types of braces treatment?
1. Metal braces- these are the conventional braces. This includes metal brackets, wire, and elastics which help in moving the teeth.

2. Ceramic braces-these are tooth-colored braces. They are more comfortable than conventional braces and more aesthetic too.

3. Aligners-these are made of clear thermoplastic material. They also have the advantage of being removable and more comfortable as they do not involve wires elastics etc.

4. Removable – these are simple plate and wire appliance which is removable and involves a spring to help in the tooth movement.
What is the ideal age for orthodontics?
Orthodontic treatment is for people of all ages. The right age to start orthodontic treatment is when your child’s permanent teeth begin to erupt. This is around 7 yrs of age.
